A Study of the Factors Determining Infection in Animals.* by Charles

چکیده
The discovery of micro6rganisms and their identification as causative agents in the production of specific diseases has led in recent years to the newer science of immunology. It may be stated that our present conception of the defensive and offensive mechanism of the host toward parasitic invasion is the direct outcome of studies upon the biochemical properties of bacteria and protozoa. Furthermore, the cultivation and study of the biological characteristics of microSrganisms are of the greatest value in rendering possible the study of immune processes. Immunology has presented in particular three problems for elucidation: ( I ) t h e factors determining the infection of man and animals, and the development of changes in the tissues--the result of bacterial and protozoal action; (2) the method through which parasites exert their detrimental influence, whether by toxin or simply by mechanical injury to the tissues; and (3) the factors determining the manner of production of protective and curative substances on the part of the infected animal. Naturally, in such a study we must take into consideration the possibility of protective properties on the part of the invading parasites; that is, their immunity against injurious substances already present or subsequently produced in the body of the

A Serological Study on Bovine Leukemia Virus Infection in Ten Provinces of Iran between 2010 and 2012
Background and Aims: Bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) is an oncogenic member of the genus Deltaretrovirus of the family Retroviridae. BLV is the causative agent of enzootic bovine leukaemia and infects cattle worldwide, imposing economic impact on the dairy cattle industry. The purpose of this study was to estimate the seroprevalence of BLV in cattle in some provinces of Iran. Materials and Methods...
متن کاملMolecular detection of equine piroplasms in donkeys (Equus asinus) in North Khorasan province, Iran
Equine piroplasmosis is a tickborne disease of equids with worldwide distribution, caused by Theileria equi and Babesia caballi. The aim of this study was molecular detection of T. equi and B. caballi in donkeys in northeastern Iran and investigate the association between positivity of piroplasm infection and host-related factors. In the present study, Blood samples were collected from 106 appa...
متن کاملWelfare Assessment in Tunisian Dairy Herds by Animal-Linked Parameters and Performance Efficiency
Animal welfare considerations are becoming increasingly important for farming of animals, both in Tunisia and internationally. Practices which may have once been deemed acceptable are now being reassessed in the light of new knowledge and changing attitudes. And a clearly defined concept of welfare is needed for use in precise scientific measurements. If animal welfare is to be compared in diff...
متن کاملDetermining the Influential Effects of Lingering Recipients’ Length of Stay at Hospital after Liver Transplantation
Introduction: Liver transplantation, which is done by spending a lot of resources and expenses at hospitals, is an important medical choice for patients suffering fulminant hepatitis and end stage liver diseases. So it is significant to find some ways to manage the patients more efficiently and to reduce caring expenses. The aim of this study is to determine the influential effects of lingerin...
متن کاملAssociation between Hepatitis B Virus Infection Outcome and HLA-A and DRB1 Genotyping in North Part of Iran
Background and Objective: The outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection may be influenced by host factors like Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA). We have investigated HLA-A and DRB1 alleles in patients with persistent hepatitis B infection compared to subjects who had spontaneously recovered from HBV infection. To complete the findings of this study we performed another survey in certain HLA ...
